Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns
This book is a must-have for anyone serious about quilts whether she makes quilts, collects quilts or wants to know more about their history. It is the idnetification standard for museums and state quilt projects where a Brackman number is part of a quilt's ID.
I use it to answer questions about pattern and to design quilts for magazine articles, books and my own entertainment. It's a necessity when designing samplers like the one pictured, made by Barb Fife of Overland Park, Kansas in one of my classes. I used the alphabetic index to find patterns with names that evoked images of slavery, for example, Lost Ship, Catch Me if You Can and Triple Link Chain.

The book is the perfect partner for BlockBase, a digital tool for printing patterns for the thousands of designs in the Encyclopedia. For more about BlockBase click here: Electric Quilt
Click on the quilt picture to see another sampler quilt designed with the Encyclopedia, a miniquilt made by Ilyse Moore of Overland Park, Kansas, pictured in my book Borderland in Butternut and Blue.
